2018 is finally here! And with it comes new style resolutions, trends and ultimately, a fresh zeal to conquer ourselves and put our best foot forward in the new year! According to the biggest designers globally and on the continent this is your cheat sheet to what trends we can expect to dominate 2018!
ULTRAVIOLET
From makeup (hello Fenty), to fashion – this Pantone predicted hue will be a firm fave of the fashion set in 2018. Accessories,decor and fashion —whatever your fancy, this fresh shade and variations of it will just about take over your Insta-feed this year.
STATEMENT EARRINGS (& EARCUFFS)
To be honest this trend has waxed and waned from 2015 onwards, so it’s no surprise that outsized ear candy will have a moment this year. Think @Badgalriri – esque oversized hoops to pebble sized faux gems and modern geometric shapes—the bigger the better.
KEEP IT OFF-THE-SHOULDER
Another trend that has been going for a while, since emerging as a micro trend in the summer of 2014, this trend has only continued to gain momentum. SINCERELY SHEER
2018 is the year to be bold. Tastefully show off a little skin with directional tulle and mesh pieces. The best part is that this trend looks just as fast fashion forward layered under crop tops, slip dresses and jumpsuits. You can also opt for pieces with some sheer detailing like literary icon Chimamanda Adichie, if you can’t fathom an all sheer look.
BERRY BRIGHT
You’ll be reaching for bright colored pieces all year – from ultraviolet to scarlet, there is a full spectrum of high impact hues to add a vibrant punch to your new year wardrobe. You can make this trend workwear appropriate by layering bright or pastel pieces with darker hued separates or channel Monica Awe-Etuk and go monochromatic in a jewel-tone for an instant cool-girl vibe.
FRINGE FORWARD
Everything’s getting the fringe treatment – from red carpet ready statement dresses to casual sweatshirts and even earrings. Fashion girls who get the memo will look absolutely incredible rocking a piece with fringe detail.
PRINT REDUX
Bold prints can be a daunting prospect, but when deftly put together can take your style game up several notches.
