Dear BellaStylista,

My name is Eki Ogunbor, BellaNaija Style Editor.

Welcome to our new platform!

I’m so excited for this new chapter. If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be a part of something so incredible, I’d never have believed it. But now, all this is really happening!

From as early as 8 years old, I’ve always loved fashion and style, making handcrafted pillowcases, knitted bags and Sinamay hats to raise funds for our parties in church, wanting to wear similar outfits with my mum for events and playing in her jewellery box, asking all sorts of annoying questions.

I’ve always loved how fashion makes us all so different, yet so similar.

I continued to nurture this part of me throughout my childhood up until I became an adult – registering for fashion design, sewing, and hairdressing classes during the long holidays.

While studying Accounting and Finance at university, I started blogging as a creative outlet. In the midst of all the numbers, tests and exams, my personal style blog, The Chameleon Blogger was my special place. Mixing a bit of my personal style with African culture and a sprinkle of high fashion.

The internet, my immediate environment, my African culture and just how I felt on any given day were ingredients that spiced up how I wanted to look, feel and live in my own originality. Which is what I think people really want – to live in their own truth and be accepted. This is what BellaNaija Style aims to celebrate – everyone’s unique and stylish self.

Now at this stage of my fashion story, I’m curating and creating content that tells the African style story in the age of social media and an ever style-obsessed world.

At BellaNaija Style, we are creating a new-school guide to style on the continent, with a nod to the past and how it’s shaping our future – emphasizing what is fresh and inspiring in fashion, the arts, lifestyle, and culture.

For the fashion heads, the beauty lovers and the tastemakers, the ones still trying to find their place in fashion, BellaNaija Style is a break away from mainstream media, your very own insider access to the best of African style and lifestyle.

All the best,
Eki
