I wanted to tell a story that will change the narrative as to how Nigerian women are expected to dress.

On how Fruche started

I’ve always loved fashion and design. When I was thirteen i would take my mothers ankara head scarves and sew them into the skimpiest outfits by hand.

It only made sense to keep exploring and figure out where this would lead. I started my brand in 2014 (while I was studying finance) and created my first collection. It was very spontaneous and naive but I wanted to tell a story that will change the narrative as to how Nigerian women are expected to dress.

Who is your favourite celebrity or influencer to work with?

I love every celebrity that has purchased my pieces. It’s always beautiful to see how they wear the clothes and put their own spin on them.

To be honest, it wouldn’t hurt to see Beyoncé wearing Fruché anytime soon. [Lol.]

How would you describe your label?

Fruché embodies a unique sensibility that seamlessly combines an outspoken narrative and a bold sensuality that is luxuriously modern.

The Fruché woman is a boss. She is a hard worker but she knows how to treat herself. She appreciates culture but still, she is progressive.

What do you believe should be the foundation of every woman’s wardrobe?

I believe women should invest in unique and timeless pieces that tell a story. It should feel like you’re buying into something special when you’re buying an item of clothing.

Where do you get style inspiration?

When I design, for me, it’s always the same story, just from a slightly different perspective for each collection. Style inspiration usually comes from workwear, Nigerian cultural attire and their silhouettes.

It should feel like you’re buying into something special when you’re buying an item of clothing.
