The 6th edition of the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards only a couple of days away and we are counting down to one of the hottest red carpet events on the continent!
With the majority of the focus on the guests, we are placing the spotlight on individuals that work tirelessly behind the scenes to create those iconic looks we love; from beauty to style. The AMVCAs will hold on Saturday, 1st of September at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos and will air LIVE on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

Ahead of the show, read this fire chat with top stylist Tosin Ogundadegbe as he opens up about the celebrities he will be working with at this year’s AMVCAs as well as which celebrities he is most excited to see on the red carpet.
When was your first time working for a client at the AMVCAs? What was the experience like?
I made my AMVCA red carpet debut as a fashion stylist in 2016 with Linda Ejiofor in a custom Woman By Aisha piece and it was quite the experience.
Last minute changes sufficed at the final fittings and all but truth be told, it’s a full glam process where attention must be paid to every detail to get your client on the best-dressed list.
Can you tell us which celebrities you will be working with this year?
Rita Dominic and Bolanle Olukanni
This year’s edition is not during the usual awards season, do you think that will affect the colours and themes that celebrities will wear?
It won’t in any way as regards to colours (Nigerians aren’t particular about going in line with the colour dictates of Pantone. They simply just opt for colors that best compliment their skin tone) As for trends, of course Yes, The MET Costume Gala already happened and it is glaring that Nigerian socialites haven’t had and done enough of “the heavenly bodies and the Catholic imagination”. So it’s striking a good balance.
Which celebrities’ look are you most excited to see this year?
Rita Dominic of course. Bolanle Olukanni. Genevieve Nnaji (if she shows up) and Adesua Etomi.
What are your style predictions for this year’s event?
The carpet will host tonnes of puffy sleeves. Mary Jane bows, off-the-shoulder, the Glitz of Studio 24, pops of bright colour, headpieces inspired by the MET Gala, structure, princess balls and sexy thigh-high slits.
What are some things you do/don’t want to see on the Red Carpet this year?
I hope never to see anything MET Gala 2018 inspired. Also if you are not ready to put an effort into looking good, do us a favour by sitting at home or avoiding the paps.
