Africa’s biggest award show is just one day away, dresses are fluffed, suits are pressed and the stage is set.
Ahead of the award show, read this fire chat with makeup artist Jane Ogu of Flawless Faces by Jane and she opens up about the stars she will be working with this year as well as red carpet Dos and Don’ts.
When was your first time working for a client on the AMVCAs? What was the experience like?
My first time working on the AMVCAs was in 2014 with Genevieve Nnaji, it was a beautiful experience as it was my first time having my work showcased on the red carpet. Working with one of the biggest celebrities in Nigeria at that time was a big deal, I was tense, happy and it was an experience I would never forget.
Can you tell us which celebrities you will be working with this year?
I don’t know yet, but I am working with the Regional Manager for Africa Magic and maybe Beverly Naya, but I most especially look forward to working with the new faces making their debut at this year’s edition. I am more interested in glamming people up, celebrity or not.
Which celebrities’ looks are you most excited to see this year?
I always love to see Genevieve Nnaji on the red carpet, Beverly Naya also takes a lot of risks and dresses really well, Toyin Lawani, Eku Edewor, Adesua Etomi, and Stephanie Linus. They show out everywhere and I can’t wait to see all their looks this year.
What have been your favourite past AMVCA looks?
Genevieve Nnaji’s look for the 2015 AMVCAs, the mustard dress by Elvira Jude. The glam team was on point, of course, I did her makeup and it definitely broke the internet. Mimi Onalaja’s look for the 2017 edition was also so beautiful, Eku Edewor’s looks are always so classy, her makeup is always very minimal and glowy.
What trends should we look out for this year?
As regards makeup, we should expect to see a lot of dewy, glowy, natural looks. It’s going to rain “glow” on the red carpet; body glow, highlight enhancing all the natural features.
What are some things you do/don’t want to see on the Red Carpet this year?
Don’t – Please no glitters on the eyes, no tacky looks and untidy looking hairstyles. If you are going to walk the red carpet, please get the best glam team who understands live TV makeup and people should show up early, no lateness, please! Since it’s going to be September, end of summer, there is going to be a lot of colour; yellow, orange, white and nude shades.
