Rising contemporary womenswear fashion label Semande presents its new collection titled Osin. The UK based fashion label is rooted in African culture and heritage that aims to create a strong but minimalistic fashion aesthetic which adds value to the ideal woman. The collection features a lot of flowy pieces and we can tell why.
According to the press release, the collection is inspired out of a word ‘Osin’ which is a Badagry word for water.
This second collection themed OSÍN (a badagry word for WATER), was inspired by water, it’s nature, benefits, effects on us, and its ability to exist in different states. When frozen it solidifies, when heated it evaporates, when touched it shakes with a slight rapid motion. It can be silent just like the still ponds, whispers just like the running streams and loud just like the raging sea.
In the words of Fela, ‘’Water no get enemy” meaning, water is irreplaceable, it is indispensable, and no one can do without it. It will always be an essential part of life, just as this SS19 collection is created to be timeless.
Characterized with intricately sewn stones and hand pleated tulle detail, some of the pieces are draped with side pleats. The designer collaborated with Alice Hume, a textile artist based in Portsmouth and infused some of the artists’ woven fabrics into different pieces for the collection.
