Hey BellaStylistas!
After many failed attempts at trying the #DMXChallenge, I got the feeling that I haven’t been experimenting enough with my hair and so I was more than happy to try out the new salon in Lagos that legions of fashion faves have been flocking to – even though it was launched only a few months ago, it has already made serious waves and I was curious to find out why.
Nestled in the heart of Victoria Island, Taupe has all the charm of a modern salon decorated with a clean aesthetic and fresh plants. It is impressively owned by London-trained Nigerian hairstylist Fola Fash. The premium private boutique salon has a welcoming décor that definitely gives you that relaxed feel on arrival.
When I booked my appointment, I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair. I just wanted to try something different – from my regular wigs. And so with a positive, slightly afraid mindset, I went into the salon greeted warmly by Fola.
She immediately advised I got a blowdry, stopping occasionally to mention that I had such great natural hair. “Reeeaaallyyy?” I asked her, puzzled. She was very patient with me and the numerous questions I asked. Plus I had a date to get to right after so I really wanted to make sure it turned out great.
Taupe offers everything from sew-ins and styling to hair colouring and treatments. It is the type of place that you want to book yourself in for a complete hair overhaul. Founded by Fola, who decided to venture out on her own after working for a long time in corporate salons in the UK. Her salon simply aims to bring something fresh, new and modern to the beauty space in Lagos in addition to impeccable customer service which she pointed out as one of her major goals.
My hair was washed and I had a mini head massage to really ease away the aches and pains of the day ahead. Soon after, I got the Moisture & Protein Balance treatment which helped my stringy, sticky hair, giving it shine and that softness to be styled easily. Fola was quick and efficient making sure I was date-ready in no time.
While my hair was in the dryer I enjoyed a complimentary cup of coffee and their up-to-date fashion magazines – time literally flew by. After the blowdry, my hair was trimmed and cut to a side part with the ends curled to a bob that complimented my face. Ah! How I loved the look.
I was already won over by the exceptionally friendly team and they made me feel at ease straight away. With great products and treatments, I doubt Taupe would remain as exclusive as Fola intends – Lagosians love a place where they can really get their money’s worth and her salon gives just that. What’s more? My blow-dry held for the three days, which is unheard of for my hair!
