Not much good. There will be no New year, New you gist if you are not intentional about what goes on your plate and in your mouth. Read that again. 

I know what you are thinking, but honestly, it does not have to be complicated. Watch your skin come alive with just a few simple additions. Nothing expensive; the right amounts of good old fashioned fresh fruits and vegetables. Here are three essential fruits that will give your skin the boost it needs to glow throughout the year.

Tomatoes 

On almost every street corner in Lagos, you will find someone selling fresh tomatoes. Perhaps it is a sign you should be eating them raw rather than cooked. Tomatoes have anti-ageing properties called lycopene. Its also packed with natural vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, A, K, B1, B3, B5, B6, and B7. Throw them in a salad, sandwich, smoothie or snack on them. Tomatoes can be used directly on the skin too. It works as an astringent to tighten pores while reducing facial oil. It will also brighten your skin when applied directly.

Oranges

The OG of glowing skin is the main ingredient in almost every skincare product out there. Nothing is more satisfying than a cold glass of orange juice. And nothing more rewarding than what it does to your skin. Did you know the orange peel is said to have higher levels of Vitamin C than the fruit itself? The peel contains antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that will give you clear skin in no time.

The peel is perfect for treating acne and oily skin. It also works as a skin lightening agent and can do wonders for marks on the face and pigmentation. All you need to do is dry the peel under the sun and grind it into powder. Store it in an airtight container and use it as a face mask. You will need 1 tbsp of orange peel powder and 2 tbsp of yoghurt. Mix it up and apply it to your face and neck. Rinse off after 20 minutes, and voilà, you will have tighter, clearer glowing skin. 

Avocados 

The impressive list of benefits from this super fruit makes it one of the most valuable items on the list. Avocados are high in healthy fats and are an excellent source of Vitamin E and C. These vitamins play a vital role in the health and vitality of your skin. They are also packed with antioxidants like lutein and beta carotene to help even out your skin tone, prevent skin damage, improve skin elasticity, minimize breakouts and prevent dry skin.

Avocados are typically enjoyed in smoothies, salads, on toast and used to make guacamole, but you can also use them directly on your skin. Try an avocado face mask by mixing one teaspoon of honey with half an avocado. Leave on your face for 10 minutes, and you will feel the difference instantly!
