Women inventors throughout history were not given recognition for the work they created. It was also difficult for them to get patents for their inventions. These inventions have shaped the world of food into what it is today.
One of these life-changing inventions is the dishwasher. It was invented in 1886 by American inventor Josephine Garis Cochran. Josephine designed the first commercially successful automatic dishwasher in a shed behind her home.
Josephine was the ultimate party host. She entertained guests often and thought about getting dishes washed faster since every party left her with a mountain of dishes. Some of which would get broken by her servants when washing up.
The invention of the dishwasher ended the era of washing an endless pile of dishes by hand. Restaurants and hotels were among the first to purchase Josephine dishwashers. By the 1950s, dishwashers had become a standard household appliance.
