The annual extravaganza that is the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards is always a star-studded event, and the fashion, beauty and after party looks of the celebrity guests are arguably more talked about than the awards given out on the night.
Africa Magic took things to a new level with the new au courant trend for major events: a portrait studio. Following in the footsteps of amazing portrait studios like Kelechi Amadi Obi’s annual Lagos Fashion Week Portrait Studio, Mark Seliger’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party studio in partnership with Instagram and the Toronto International Film Festival x Huawei portrait studio which runs throughout the film festival week is a chance to add a little extra oomph to event – showcasing the award winners, nominees and guests at their most glamorous.
This modern awards ceremony has been around for almost half a decade and for this event Aham Ibeleme the portrait photographer at the helm of this inaugural studio eschewed an elaborate set. Favouring a starker backdrop in a rich, textured forest green from custom hand-painted backdrop designer Gravity Backdrops, the images were no less iconic for it.
This year Africa Magic really outdid itself and captured the glitz and glam of the event, giving it a patina of gravitas and immortalising the impeccably-dressed stars. First-time winners like Jade Osiberu, nominees like Dakore Akande, music icons like Sound Sultan as well as first time attendees like Big Brother Naija’s CeeC Nwadiora, Anto Lecky and Leo B. Da Silva celebrated the evening with a stunning portrait worthy of the event.
Cheers to a #NewNollywood tradition!
