In a new Financial Times feature, the publication profiles Lagos-based store Alára as one of the eleven world’s best boutiques.
Founded in 2015, Alára has become a must-visit fashion destination in Nigeria’s buzziest city. In the heart of Victoria Island, the store’s conceptual structure by Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye stands tall and inside collections including fashion, art and homewares from around the world are displayed. At Alára, you will find an impressive assemblage of each season’s best from desginers including YSL and Dries Van Noten to Kenneth Ize and Duro Olowu but it’s also the regular pop up events with the likes of Naomi Campbell and Alexander-Julian Gibbson that sets this place apart.
You’re bound to work up an appetite after shopping, so it’s a good thing the space also houses its Nok restaurant with its stellar contemporary Pan-African menu.
As Reni Folawiyo, founder of the Nigerian concept store rightly put it;
People don’t come here for basics, but for glamour.
