Okhtein – The Label
Launched in 2013, Okhtein seeks to set new trends, it was created by design duo siblings Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf – meaning, appropriately, “sisters” in Arabic. Their vision is
to bring true luxury back to their home country as well as drawing international attention to the inherent refinement of Egyptian artisanship.
Okhtein prides itself on a hyperlocal manufacturing process and every product has a distinctive provenance with deep cultural affiliations. The incorporation of handmade embroidery and straw into their leatherwork makes their brand truly unique.
The Founders
Born and raised in Cairo, the two talented sisters honed in on fashion at a young age. They both studied at the American University of Cairo; Aya focusing on communication and media arts, digital arts and design and Mounaz, a concentration in marketing and art.
Where To Find Them
That they have a huge social media following is no surprise, as their designs are so distinctive and swoon worthy, they are basically Instagram bait. Currently stocked in major global retailers like Moda Operandi, Farfetch, Curve & Bloomingdale’s in Dubai and Harvey Nichols in Saudi Arabia as well as special collections for regional retailers like Boutique 1, Rubaiyat & Ounass.
Beyonce wore their brand last year. Enough said.
