Fashion Week is nothing if not a feast for the senses: beautiful models on the runway; celebrities decked out in their favourite designers; and of course editors, BellaStylistas, BellaNaijarians and street style stars with killer looks serving at the Heineken Lagos Fashion Week tents all day every day. Luckily, we are partnering with Lagos Street Style once more to capture the top 25 looks each day, the brightest moments, bold beauty and chic street style looks, making sense of the stylish chaos that is Lagos Fashion Week 2018.
Lagos Street Style is a partnership of two – a mother and son duo (Fifi and Seni). Fifi is a full-time oil and gas lawyer who started documenting street style in Scotland 6 years ago and more recently in Lagos when she moved back home in 2014. Seni is a 12-year-old Honor Roll student who prefers nature photography but maintains an interest in street style (possibly for the mom and son bonding experience!) Their photos, along with some social commentary can be found on the blog www.lagosstreetstyle.com and their Instagram page @lagos_streetstyle.
Fifi and Seni told us;
Our main subject base comes from fashion centred events in Lagos (and sometimes beyond). Lagos Fashion Week provides a plethora of people who know to have unapologetic fun with their individual style. This year, for the 2nd year in a row, we are honoured to collaborate with BellaNaija to document and share with the BN community, the high energy and cultural twists surrounding the true runway, the streets.
Why went from 50 photos to 25:
Last year, we ran with 50 photos and ran the risk of creating viewer fatigue. This year, the focus will be on highlighting 25 of the most eloquent expressions of style honesty, those who can quite easily compete or perhaps even surpass the inspiration on the runway. Essentially, quality over quantity with a comprehensive coverage of diversity is what we hope to achieve.
Our photography, unlike what appears common in the fashion industry, does not thrive on exclusivity. Bella Naijarians I hope you will enjoy taking this ride with us and if you’re attending this year, please do say hello, we’ll be the friendly mother and son with cameras.
– Founder, Lagos Street Style
We are super excited to work with Lagos Street Style again, her expert eye is pivotal to our annual street style curation and street style as a phenomenon is such a crucial part of the fashion week experience; giving a patina of accessibility and relatability.
Honestly – there is something liberating and enjoyable about watching people who enjoy dressing up, actually do the most without feeling like they are ‘doing too much’. If you can’t get dressed up for a few days dedicated to celebrating fashion, when can you?
