Day 3 of the portrait challenge features fashion stylist and designer Jane Michael Ekanem.
Jane is without any fear of contradiction one of the greatest and most celebrated Nigerian Fashion Stylists. She is also an interior decorator and most recently the designer of a fashion label. I am not surprised how far she has come, Jane is an extremely hard working woman. I have been with her on shoots, full day shoots that lasted throughout Day One and even extended to the early hours of Day Two. I have never seen anyone doing Jane’s job on her behalf. She is 100 per cent active throughout and her energy is contagious.
Another thing I find intriguing about her is her attention to detail, when Jane has a picture in mind she would not stop until she gets exactly what she has thought of in her amazingly creative mind. She is finicky and hands-on to bring everything to perfection. She is forward thinking and is always bursting with ideas and is not afraid to explore the road less travelled.
One would look at all her accomplishments and wonder if she ever has down times… Like every other great person even in the worst of days, she shows up and creates opportunities even when nothing looks handy. Like she said to me even when it looked like ‘village people’ had caught up with her she had to push herself to make new moves and all those became some of her most celebrated works. The importance of all this is to show how you can take a downtime and rise again.
As the stylist of project fame right from the first edition, her growth and consistency are evident. The contestants are always well dressed. She has also worked on some of our favourite music videos like Surulere by Dr Sid, Iheneme by Tubaba and has dressed top music Queens like Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade.
Thank you, Jane, for accepting to be on this Challenge and sharing your story. And in typical Jane fashion, she wanted an edgier look to spice it all up. #shesallthat
