Fashion brand Emmy Kabit has unveiled the campaign photos for its Autumn/Winter 2021 collection tagged “SCARS” which explores the intrinsic bond of human interaction amidst the insistent reoccurring socio-economic events.
The Emmy Kasbit A/W 21 Collection explores the intrinsic bond of human interaction amidst the insistent and reoccurring socio-economic events across the Creative Director’s home country – Nigeria. According to Emmanuel Okoro, His inspiration and creativity for the collection was birth within moments of solitude and aspirations for an inclusive governed society.
A minimalist fit embodies the collection whilst clean-cut, structured architectural lines define the collection’s silhouettes. Unique pieces exuding sartorial modernity stand out on a bold predominant palette of Red, subtly broken down with neutral tones of mint green, white and pink.
In line with Emmanuel’s passion for educating on his rich cultural heritage, the Nsibidi symbol is used to further tell his story of sustainable fashion. According to the Creative Director, The Red Akwete symbolizes strength and interaction with intricately woven colorful yarns signifying hope after such strange times. The Black Akwete has blank spaces woven into the textile which signifies a state of solitude, emptiness, and loneliness. The Green Akwete has a pathway motif signifying the different ways he and his team adapted during the brunt of the pandemic.
Strong and heavy fabrics showcase the collections classic and functional appeal. An androgynous edge with clean, uncluttered lines plays the central story in the collection. Detail is pronounced to reveal the bold and beautiful tones of the pieces – the look is flattering and functional. Yet the occasional and purposeful considered slits, extended flaps, and cut-outs perfectly complements the structured silhouettes adding to their distinctive appeal. Sculptured dresses and layered shirts are perfect examples of the traditional inspired appeal.
The collection abides with effortless statement pieces that can easily transcend through the season. Asymmetric cut coats and sleek blazers demonstrate the complex yet defined mode of tailoring featuring throughout the season’s collection. The tailoring beautifully enhances the body whilst exaggerating key areas such as the shoulder, arms, and legs to reveal a certain air of deserved glamour.
Menswear focuses on a smart yet classic look with pieces that will complement the modern – classic man’s closet. The Akwete, Tweed, and Corduroy are perfectly paired with silk metallic fabrics to create distinctive pieces. The Akwete fringe overcoat is an essential piece for this season whilst the “Agbada” shirt gives a casual yet cultural edge to the collection
Emmanuel Okoro has created timeless pieces with this collection with a unique appeal whilst making very strong and bold statements this season. Most definitely a collection which recovers from “SCARS”
