Last night Atoke, Ivie and I checked out the pre-festival scene with the unveiling of the newly refurbished D|Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel. With a great mix of influencers like Alexander Kenton Liang, Sasha Exeter and Emotional Intelligence coach Karlyn Percil, the crowd was undeniably chic and the excitement was palpable.
This was in my opinion a great way to ease into the whirlwind of activity that TIFF opening weekend brings, with a slew interviews, cocktail parties and post-gala soirees in store for us, we practically lunged at this chance to have a fun, kind of none work related evening.
The new space is beyond gorgeous with a refreshed interior palette of blush, olive, natural greys, rose quartz and brass detailing that is carried through the furniture and carpeting. With delicious new menu options from Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Boulud (ham and Cheese Croquetas= DIVINE) and cool new elements highlighting the emphasis on women in film as well as an awesome portrait studio by photographer George Pimentel this event was everything I could ask for.
In keeping with the theme of celebrating women in film – Pimentel presented his own photos on display throughout the first floor of the hotel. On the lobby level there is also an exhibit of some of the cinematic red carpet moments captured of Hollywood icons by Pimentel, including Angelina Jolie, Ava DuVernay, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain, Julia Roberts, Lady Gaga, Lupita Nyong’o, Oprah Winfrey, Priyanka Chopra, Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman. The exhibit is available for public viewing until Sept. 30, 2018.
