Nigerian lifestyle brand,  Hauwa de Zuzu (HDZ) is delighted to unveil its new collection, IPINLE: a denim collection with Indigenous interpretation.

The designer’s Fulani and Yoruba roots sparked her love and appreciation for the diversity and uniqueness of different cultures worldwide, which in turn inspired her to interpret and fuse that admiration with her passion for fashion and the arts.

Beginning as a passion project for quite some time before it was officially launched in 2019, HDZ is a celebration of identity, unity, and togetherness, born from the need to celebrate culture and women, while uplifting and spreading the powerful message of solidarity and kinship. It is about heritage and pride in our diversity and individuality.

“Hauwa” means unique, wonderful and awesome and “Zuzu” means beautiful, confident, intelligent, and resilient; merged these words describe the perfect HDZ woman.

We believe every woman deserves to be celebrated and represented in her strength, beauty and resilience which is exactly what we do with our clothes. The juxtaposition of bold colors and rich fabrics with intricate detailing and prints, creates the perfect recipe for cultural fusion of modern but timeless pieces.

HDZ is wearable art that is proudly African and reveres in its authenticity.

According to the brand,

The “Ipinle” collection is the fourth drop from Hauwa De Zuzu. Ipinle means source/foundation in Yoruba Language and is a story of Rebirth and Rediscovery, inspired by the designer’s love for the 90’s era in fashion, old Nollywood, house parties, and music, most especially Hip-hop.

A true exciting feeling of Nostalgia in re-living a time and moment that encouraged and brought about a whole new feeling of emancipation and creativity. In making this collection, it was important for the designer to tap into the time that shaped and inspired her love for fashion, culture, and the arts.

This collection is heavily denim-focused with the use of different variations of premium denim, infused with a mix of Aso Oke, Adire, and colourful fabrics, as well as a unique placement of ruffles, pearls, crystals, and local cowrie shells, strategically hand beaded into the fabrics to bring to life the vibrancy and cultural richness the brand has become known for.

The collection is Unisex and has an exciting mix, that appeals to everyone, as well as, feminine silhouettes that flatter & complement the body to promote self-confidence and size inclusivity. According to the designer,

The creation of Ipinle has been a source of light and reawakening and my unique ways have been depicted in this well-curated collection to celebrate the foundation of Hauwa De Zuzu.
