There is no doubt, Rita Dominic has the fountain of youth flowing in her backyard – the woman doesn’t age!. But apart from her unageing skin, the striking actress is a style chameleon both on screen and off the camera. She knows just what looks works for her body time and happens to make our best-dressed list at almost every red carpet event whether she is wearing a luxury designer or something from a high street brand.
Since the inception of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2013, Rita has been one of the attendees who keep us glued to our seats as they make rounds on the red carpet with different scene-stealing looks. When it comes to this event, the ’76 star keeps talented designer Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, close to heart as well as a couple of designers who she trusts to make her shine through the night.
As we countdown to seeing this Nollywood star in yet another iconic look at this year’s AMVCA, here are all the times she has wowed us on the red carpet.
2013
For her first AMVCAs appearance, Rita mixed modest and delicate silk for an overall luxurious appearance.
The champagne gold mono sleeve dress designed by MOOFA was a perfect fit for the black-tie event. Her accessories for the night were a matching turban and a statement silver necklace paired with a silver glitter purse.
2014
This year, Rita brought the red dress effect to the glamour-filled event. Another picture perfect Lanre Da Silva Ajayi look that featured sequins and embroidery on a fishtail floor length dress.
Although she was daring enough to play with bold colour this year, Rita downplayed on accessories and kept things simple with gold drop earrings only and a gold clutch. She also opted for smokey eyes and red lipstick to match.
2015
The custom-made marble print dress the Nollywood diva wore was easy on the eyes but equally striking because at the volume of the base and a single slit that ran up to her inner thigh.
Not one to over accessorize, she opted for a nude lip colour with gold earrings and a simple bracelet, carrying a gold mini purse to complete her look.
2016
The colours that defined 2016 were nature-based and this included forest green which the talented Elvira Jude worked with for Rita’s AMVCA look that year.
She oozed poise and finesse in the custom mermaid shaped dress which had an exaggerated peplum top and a matching skirt cinched at the waist with an embellished belt. She kept her overall look simple opting for minimal jewellery, a black clutch and a pair of silver heeled-sandals.
2017
This champagne gold dress designed by Lanre DaSilva Ajayi. became an instant classic when Rita Dominic wore it for the star-studded March even. It didn’t hurt either that she the award for Best Actress in a Drama the look was a winning one.
Although the dress was not form fitting from some angles, we could all appreciate the structure and architectural thought that went into the look. From the sheer piece draped over a form-fitting breast padded bodice to the layers of fabric that flowed from her midriff to the floor – the outfit was a hit.
She finished the look with a complimenting gold purse and earrings from Ariaba.
