Day 4 Gimbiya
At first glance, MakeupByAshabee’s Portrait Challenge may look exactly like many of the #WeddingSaturday portraits you’ve already seen on Instagram: packed full of #GlowKween highlighter, uber sculpted brows, and a wicked cut crease. But read the captions and you’ll realise something truly special: This makeup artist is highlighting different types of beauty, and is celebrating friendship, sisterhood and her support system in one fell swoop.
Day 25 @sharon_ooja
The inspiration for the challenge came from the women themselves, for Abisola Akintunde aka MakeupByAshaBee the ‘main aim of the challenge was to emphasize that there was so much more to being a beautiful woman than just the physical beauty’ . The makeup maven was pushed to highlight women who are not only relatable, but have ‘showed up and showed out’ against every setback they’ve faced. This everyday resilience and chutzpah was the inner beauty she wanted to capture in her subjects. She opens up about how each and every one of these women have motivated, inspired and spurred her on – directly and just by living their truth on a day-to-day basis. She decided to take matters into her own hands and celebrate and appreciate her everyday #SHeroes by combining her love for makeup with her passion for her support system.
Day 8 Tope Ojo
According to Akintunde, her challenge, featuring everyone from Linda Ejiofor, Wofai Ifada and A’Rese Emokpae – winner of the Voice Nigeria to her friends, employees and work colleagues, received overwhelming support from her followers, and validation for the challenge.
Day10 @Ink.Eze
In her own words, ‘This was me telling their stories through my perspective and how their life has personally inspired me. It was fun bringing it to life in the way I know how to best, giving a beautiful face beat and still telling a beautiful story’
Take a brief look at the comments on MakeupByAshabee’s Instagram page, and you’ll quickly realise just how much support she gets from her fanbase. “Everything is giving me life right now !!,” one wrote. Another said, “[Your work is always flawless, keep up the good work and God will do wonders with you].”
We concur.
