On Sunday the 24th of February, the 91st Academy Awards took place at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. While the Oscars is TV and film’s biggest nights, it is also a highlight on the fashion calendar for many fashion enthusiasts as we get to see our favorite celebrities win awards dressed in pieces from some of the biggest names in fashion and this year, African celebrities did not come to play at the Oscars. From Lupita Nyong’o to Trevor Noah, we saw many of our faves deliver with their looks especially Producer and Actor David Oyelowo who went out of his way to pay homage to the fictional country of Wakanda and his very real Nigerian roots in a dark green custom made three piece tux by ETRO.
Speaking to People TV, David said:
’‘As we know, it’s been the year of Wakanda but I felt it was time to celebrate a real African country, so I’m in the Nigerian colors tonight.”
