The out of the box fashion designers took over Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017 Day 3. The industry’s well-established fashion houses and several newcomers in fashion officially previewed their Spring/Summer collections for 2018.
Tiffany Amber Culture which is an extension of the Tiffany Amber brand showcased high fashion versions of iro and buba while Fela played in the background capturing the rich aesthetics of the African culture with a stylish global appeal. Clan pieces were a drastic departure from the usually demure, workstyle looks the brand is known for. The show was a parade of cleavage-accentuating dresses, fringed jumpsuits, and daring party colours.
If there is a Nigerian brand which is diverse and excellent in every single one of its directions, it’s definitely Andrea Iyamah – Swimwear, Ready to Wear, Bridal. She debuted pieces from her bridal collection last night playing with layers and lengths over a neutral palette. Graceful is a good word to describe the showcase and headline model Miss World 2001 Agbani Darego who in fact was a bride just a few months ago.
For Mai Atafo who has made a road in the bridal section, merely showing dresses with excellent manipulation of fabric, colour, and texture was not enough. He gave a romantic live-action adaptation of a scene from Beauty and the Beast.
Not all the collections had elaborate shows — flowing boho ruffle dresses, plaid suits and jaunty hats were also featured in RÉ‘s, Emmy Kasbit‘s and Tokyo James‘ runway shows respectively.
There sure is as much action on the runway as there is off the runway. Here are the highlights from Day 3 shows.
