The gorgeous and multi-award-winning South African singer-songwriter Simphiwe Dana, covers lifestyle magazine Nounouche‘s latest issue. This issue is the 7th edition of the publication since it was launched in January 2022.

Beginning her musical career in 2002, at the age of 22, Simphiwe has become one of South Africa’s most recognizable musical icons with far-reaching influence on fashion, culture and even politics to name a few. She is known for her creative social commentary and activism through music as a political art form.

For her cover shoot, Simphiwe rocked sleeveless outfits with astounding glam, her hair made into a gorgeous Afro avant-garde masterpiece by renowned South African Afro hairstylist – Tumelo Mpholo of TumeloMJ. This vintage crown (speaking of Simphwe’s hairstyle) dates back to the impressive aesthetics of pre-colonial African women who sculpted their hair into interesting forms like this.

Opening with an exchange of admiration and pleasantries, Zoë Modiga delves into a rich conversation with the Cover Star.

Simphiwe speaks about the meaning of her name, her roots, her sisterhood with the late Lebo Mathosa, her musical influences, Busi Mhlongo, the acclaimed healing power of her music and her theatrical concert – MOYA which has been described as an artistic reflection on the role of spirituality in healing.

The issue also featured snapshots and interviews with her children. Keep scrolling to see a few images of them.
