The award-winning actress and daughter of Nigerian billionaire Magnate – Temiloluwa Otedola (fondly called Temi Otedola) – was spotted in a beautiful denim multi-layered dress from Louis Shengtao Chen.
Louis Shengtao Chen, the designer after whom this eponymous label is named, is a Central Saint Martins (CSM) graduate now based in Chongqing, China who found himself listening to the Frank Sinatra classic “Fly Me to the Moon” last season.
According to Vogue, the song was on repeat so often that Louis ended up basing his whole collection on it, focusing on the idea of escapism and clothes that evoke this free spirit.
“To fly out to the middle of nowhere, you can hold all of your hopes [and dreams]—with no boundaries,” he said. It was hence not a surprise that, he named his collection — Fly Me to the Moon.
louisshengtaochen.cn says Fly Me to the Moon is Louis’ clear nod and innate yearning for purity. A psychological tango, stepping back and forth across the lines of love and hate, cold and warm, bright and dark.
In an emotional evolution that drives the label’s core, Louis Shengtao Chen grows in the candlelight and embarks on a voyage onto the darker, mysterious facade of the moon. The collection derives from the designer’s personal journey, and combines its beauty, devotion, struggle, pain and optimism towards the eternal notion of love, making a statement that is softer, clearer and full of edge: To love is to stay naive.
Innocence hides in between sharp tentacles, passion walks along the lines of denim tears, and Louis Shengtao Chen’s signature silhouettes are reworked into romantic yet everyday pieces, walking into a hopeless dream of “armed fragility”.
This spring/summer 2023 assortment includes pieces that are dreamy and ethereal, with finishes he describes as “fresh and fragile” one of which was rocked by Temi, who shared these captivating shots of herself in the multilayered denim dress from Louis’ 2nd Chapter of the Fly Me to the Moon Collection.
According to Vogue, the denim piece was laser engraved with washes that resembled the texture of LACE as Louis said he had always liked vintage finishings on denim. With matching printed jersey sleeves, which are detachable, this masterful ruffled gown took deliberate cues from Britney Spears and the blazing Y2K craze.
Temi slayed the beautiful work of art with soft facial contours, blushed cheeks and cocoa-lined glossy lips; her hair pulled into a sleek back bun with interesting coiled up front edges and her lobes decked with a pair of floral gold pin-ups.. Posing with subtle charm and grace, she embodies the innocence, love and intrigue present at the creation of the masterpiece.
