Congratulations are in order once again for Africa’s IT designers Kenneth Ize and Thebe Magugu! Both designers have been shortlisted among six finalists for The Woolmark Company‘s International Woolmark Prize for 2021. The annual prize celebrates outstanding fashion talents from around the globe who showcase the beauty and versatility of Australian Merino wool.
Magugu from South Africa and Ize from Nigeria were also shortlisted in 2019 for the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Prize which saw Thebe Magugu become the first African designer to win the highly coveted prize.
Following the announcement by The Woolmark Company, the six emerging designers who were selected from 380 applications will present a Merino wool collection around this year’s theme of “Less is more“.
One finalist will be awarded the International Woolmark Prize of AU$200,000; in addition, the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation, worth AU$100,000.
