We don’t appreciate our own West African ‘summer’ November to May, constantly hiding from the sun and enjoying AC but as soon as it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere off we go to find beaches and post selfies of ourselves in swimwear and on yachts, having picnics and generally doing all the things we can’t be bothered to do in our home countries.
But hey! ‘Summer’ is just a few months away and it gives you an annual goal to work towards so consider now a good time to step down from whatever woman crushing thing you’re doing and evaluate – or evalu-eat.
Is your body ready for its big reveal? If not you still have time (but no time to waste). Read on for my 3-month plan.
Summer Body Food
Lean and clean
It’s not just about counting your calories, you also have to look at your food choices. Processed foods and soft drinks can make you put on weight even if they have little to no calories because there are chemicals in those foods which don’t let your brain know when you’re full and slow down your metabolism.
You need to increase your intake of so-called ‘clean’ foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and yogurt as well as look at your calorie count. Also include lean proteins, like poultry, seafood, beans and low-fat dairy.
- Frankfurters best avoided at all times
- Fruits and veg for the win
- Interval tummy training
Try eating at regular intervals on your beach body diet plan, consuming about the same number of calories at each meal. For example, if you need 1,500 calories a day, each meal should have about 400 to 450 calories, leaving room for two 75- to 150-calorie snacks.
Summer Body Exercises
30 minutes a day
To tone up and look good in your swimwear, you’ll want to include exercise in your three-month summer body weight-loss plan. On my Instagram @VBWELLLIFE, you’ll find a fun exercise move for every day of your week to give you a toned-looking body – especially where it counts! Yasss Girlfriend! Legs, Bums and Tums!
The key word is fun, fun because now is the time to throw yourself into whatever sort of exercise you like if you’re going to turn things around in the next three months.
To get you started, here is a fun move from my DANCEFiT classes designed to give you a cardio workout and tone you up all over, even the bingo wings. It’s called the STEP-DOWN and like it suggests includes a step move as well as a lunge and a squat. No need for a step machine or Stairmaster plus you’ll feel like such a diva.
So what are you waiting for, Oya let’s go!
